They think it's all over..... well it's not! :O)

Hi,

Just a quick note to let you all know that things are still "go" with La Journee. As a full time professional miniature painter it's sometimes difficult to fit things in and get stuff photographed as much as I would like.

There are a couple of things that I've been working on that will be gracing the pages of this blog soon- Lombards, which have taken a little conversion and a slight historical liberty (but they are as close as I'm going to get using miniatures on the market at present). Also, there has been a lot of re-basing of my WAB HYW English army with a few additional miniatures. Unlike most re-basing, a phrase that usually has an awful resonance with wargamers, it has been a pleasure to re-base much of my collection as it has given me licence to base the miniatures in my usual vignette style but with a bit more flair.

Anyway, pics coming very soon which will include the conversion and painting of the Lombard cavalry.

  1. What system are you re-basing your HYW English for?

  2. Hi Chris,

I'm basing them all from WAB over to Impetus. I was going to attempt to use some sort of sabbot base for the Verneuil demo game but in the end I made the decision that the army would have a much greater impact if it was all based for Impetus. After all, it's hard to top the Impetus basing system for aesthetics.

  3. Yes,WAB has the best ancient/medieval rules around(my opinion),but very unattractive basing. While Impetus on the other hand has decent rules, but like you implied the best basing around.
Too bad that when you base fully for Impetus,it really makes playing WAB with that army difficult.I've decided to pick what armies I think work best with Impetus for the armies I own.I'll being doing all my Aztec,Spanish,Samurai and Korean with Impetus basing which is perfect for representing open order infantry.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you have done with your HYW army.:-)

Yeah, WAB's a lot of fun but i'm not so sure it's the best ruleset for a demo game as units usually end up at all four corners of the table. Impetus is generally better for holding a consistant battleline and should look better on the tabletop. Also, I'm 'beyond the pale' as far as Forgeworld are concerned and i'm not all that willing to promote 'their' rules as they have prroved to be a big disappointment in terms of supporting WAB 2. That's not to say that I won't use the rules- I do enjoy playing WAB, just don't want to give free publicity to those folks.

Gives me the perfect excuse to take time to get those Burgundians and French Ordonnance off the ground :O)

    Pics up soon Christopher.

  7. Basing for Impetus is best choice if you really want to show off your miniatures (and they are more than worthy). Diorama building for the win!
Personally I can't see why under normal circumstances - i.e. your average gaming night with friends - one had problems playing WAB using units based for Impetus.

    Looking forward to your progress!

  10. Darrell,
A good post and I have shared the angst on basing compositions many a time and the larger Impetus bases do reward a great 'story' but do pose a challange. If it counts for naything I prefer the top option?
    Looking forward to seeing more....
    Cheers
    Simon.
